FAQ | Fabric manufacturer

A coated fabric is one to which a layer of waterproof or weather-resistant material is applied on one or both sides of the fabric. This gives the fabric additional properties, such as waterproofing, stain resistance, oil resistance, UV resistance, etc.

Materials commonly used to coat fabrics include polyurethane (PU), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), teflon (PTFE), acrylic, silicone and others. Each of these materials offers specific properties in terms of waterproofing, breathability and durability.

Coated fabrics offer several advantages. They are waterproof, weatherproof and stain-resistant, making them suitable for outdoor use. In addition, they can offer UV protection, abrasion resistance and greater durability than uncoated fabrics.

Coated fabrics are used in a wide range of applications, including rainwear, waterproof jackets, tents, rucksacks, tarpaulins, tablecloths, furniture covers, parasols, umbrellas and in the automotive industry for seats and upholstery.

Some coated fabrics are designed to be breathable, allowing water vapor to escape from the fabric while preventing water penetration. These breathable fabrics are commonly used in rainwear and sports equipment to ensure thermal comfort.

Coated fabrics can be cared for according to the manufacturer's specific instructions. In general, they can be cleaned with a damp cloth, hand-washed or machine-washed at low temperature using mild detergents specific to coated fabrics. It is important to avoid the use of bleaching agents or fabric softeners.

The environmental friendliness of coated fabrics depends on the material used for coating. Some materials, such as PVC, can pose problems in terms of environmental sustainability. However, there are more environmentally-friendly options, such as water-based coatings and recycled materials.

Coated fabrics are generally more durable than uncoated fabrics in terms of resistance to water and wear. However, overall durability also depends on the quality of manufacture and proper care of the fabric.
